What a one-second reading measures
A one-second interval samples the fastest part of a burst and nothing else. There is no fatigue in it, no rhythm to settle into, and no room to recover a press you missed. Eight clicks inside the second is 8 CPS, which the chronometer reports as 480 CPM — a rate almost nobody can hold for a full minute.
Read it the way a dyno reads peak power: it states what the hand and the switch manage at their best instant. For a figure you could repeat on demand, run the ten-second or sixty-second interval instead.
